Sortland has thriving and diverse cultural and recreational activities.

An indoor football stadium, a swimming and sports hall and an alpine skiing facility are only a few of the offers available.

The new Culture Factory Kulturfabrikken (2014) house concert halls, a cinema, a library, the School of Culture, exhibition halls, a café and other cultural activities.

   

Outdoor Recreational Activities

The Vesterålen islands and the varied natural surroundings are en Eldorado for lovers of the outdoors, with plenty of opportunities to kayak, climb mountains and fish. If you enjoy trekking, the Vesterålen Hiking Association has numerous routes to recommend.

Music

Sortland is particularly renowned for its active and diverse musical environment. The municipality has a very active school of culture offering instruction in music, dance and visual art.

Cinema

Sortland cinema is in the town hall, in the centre of Sortland, and shows film two days a week, thursday and sunday. Sortland cinema is fully digitized and can also show films in 3D. Please follow us at Facebook

Festivals

Sortland jazz festival is held each Autumn and features well-known Norwegian and international musicians. Laterna Magica is our annual film festival, which aims to stimulate children and adolescents to make their own films.
